Iyengar®️ Yoga

Discover the Path of Iyengar®️ Yoga
B.K.S. Iyengar (1918–2014) was one of the most influential yoga teachers in the world, known for developing Iyengar Yoga. Born in Bellur, India, he suffered from poor health as a child, battling malaria, tuberculosis, and malnutrition. At the age of 16, he was introduced to yoga by his brother-in-law, the renowned yogi Krishnamacharya. Through dedicated practice, he overcame his ailments and developed a deep understanding of yoga, refining techniques that emphasized precision, alignment, and the use of props to make yoga accessible to all.
Iyengar's teachings gained global recognition, as he started introducing yoga to the West in the 1950s, inspiring millions, including notable figures like violinist Yehudi Menuhin.
In 1966, he first published Light on Yoga, which became a seminal reference for modern yoga practice.
The use of props, designed by Guruji , such as kuruntas, bolsters, bricks, chair and belts, helps the practitioner to achieve perfection in any asana. Regardless of your age or level of mobility, you can still enjoy the benefits of yoga.

Today, his legacy continues through the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India, which remains a global reference for Iyengar Yoga community and research.
His family, Geeta, Prashant and Abhijata Iyengar, as well as Raya Uma Datta, and various mentor teachers that BKS Iyengar formed, have carried his teachings forward.
Iyengar®️ Yoga is now practiced in over 70 countries, with institutes and associations preserving his method and spreading the seeds of the practice worldwide.
Certified Iyengar®️ Yoga teachers undergo rigorous training to ensure they uphold the precision, alignment, and philosophy of B.K.S. Iyengar’s method. They complete years of study, practice, and assessments before earning the certification. These teachers continue to refine their skills through ongoing education, ensuring high-quality instruction. Their expertise allows them to adapt asanas for different needs, making Iyengar®️ Yoga accessible and therapeutic for practitioners of all levels.
